At Ignite, the best insurance claim is the one nobody files

The call comes at 9 a.m. A customer is angry. She says the technician’s truck crushed her mailbox post and fence, and she wants $5,000.

Benjamin Nguyen, a product manager at FieldRoutes, opened his Ignite session Thursday with that call. The session was “FieldRoutes: Fleet Intelligence From GPS Tracking to AI-Powered Operations.” In his version, the truck has no dash cam.

“There’s no evidence, there’s no witness. It’s her word against your technician’s,” Nguyen said. Between the property repair and the vehicle repair, he put the claim at around $20,000, and easily $50,000 if the vehicle is an EV.

Operators know their revenue and their close rate, Nguyen said, and how to treat a pest problem. Do they know what happens on the road, or inside the cabin? Those are the blind spots. GPS tracking, he said, is only about 10% of what Fleet Pro does.

The first answer to the mailbox call is evidence. The AI dash cam records the road ahead and the cabin when it detects an event, such as hard braking, an aggressive turn, or speeding. Recordings upload to the cloud, stay in the platform for 60 days, and can be requested for up to a year.

Nguyen kept moving past the evidence, though. A claim an operator wins is still a claim, and the angry customer might still post a bad review. So the camera also coaches, 24 hours a day while the truck is moving. It flags distraction, phone use, and an unbuckled seat belt, and each event feeds a driver scorecard. Technicians with a score of 75 and above can be left alone, he said. Scores between 65 and 75 are a warning zone. Below 65, an operator might sit with the technician for a day or two. Alerts are configurable, so owners are not buried in them.

Technicians will ask whether a camera means someone is watching them. Nguyen’s advice to operators was direct.

“Tell them that’s for your own safety. The system will give you alerts so you can prevent accidents,” he said.

Not every operator needs the full system. Nguyen described an Ohio operator running 96 vehicles across Dayton and Columbus on the least expensive tracking device, with no cameras. Nearly every device is installed and online, he said, and seven alerts are switched on. In the live demo, Fleet Pro set a technician’s manual check-in time beside the GPS arrival time at the customer’s address. When the two disagree, Nguyen said, “You have the evidence to talk to him.”

The next-generation camera, which Nguyen previewed, moves the warning ahead of the incident. It adds driver assistance, with alerts for front collisions, swerving, tailgating, and rolling stops.

Insurance savings are good, Nguyen told the room. The best saving is the claim that never gets filed.
